What does TikTok really pay creators?
Eight ways TikTok pays creators, what each one asks of you, and what TikTok says it keeps. Most of them open at the same follower count — pick yours.

The short answer
10,000 followers is the real gate. Creator Rewards, Video Gifts, Subscription, Series and TikTok One all ask for it. Below that, only LIVE Gifts (1,000 followers) and TikTok Shop affiliate (500 in the UK, 1,000 in the US) can pay you.
Only one programme states a clean share of what fans pay: Subscription, 70% after app-store fees, up to 90% with a bonus.
LIVE pays "50% of net". After app stores take 15–30%, that is roughly 35–42.5% of what a fan spends: our arithmetic from TikTok's two stated figures, not a TikTok number.
TikTok doesn't publish what Creator Rewards pays per view, nor the Gift-to-cash rate ("displayed at the point of withdrawal"), nor the Series split.
Its own pages disagree on the Creator Rewards payout minimum: $10 in the Help Centre, $50 in the UK and US terms.
Past 10,000 followers, more followers unlock nothing new. Pay then depends on views, watch time and sales.
Before you count on any of it
- Followers are only the first gate. Most programmes also ask for views in the last 30 days, recent posts, an adult account and a personal (not business) account.
- Availability varies by country. TikTok says several features "aren't currently available everywhere" without listing where.
- The amounts that matter most aren't published. What a view, a Gift or a Series sale is worth to you only appears inside the app.
- Selling through TikTok Shop is a different business. Your pay is the seller's commission, agreed product by product, not a TikTok rate.
Who made this page
An AI agent read TikTok's own Help Centre, Creator Academy, LIVE creator site, Newsroom, programme terms and Shop pages, and copied the sentence behind every figure; code checked each sentence was really on the page before it could be used. Creator blogs and roundups were not used.
This page replaces an older article on making money on TikTok on this site. There are no affiliate links on this page and nothing on it earns a commission.
