The short answer
The sign-off tools a marketing team needs sit on higher tiers. Approvals and proofing are on Asana Advanced only (£25.69 a user, billed monthly), Wrike Business only (billed annually only) and CoSchedule Suite only (contact sales). On those three, a team that needs creative sign-off pays more than the figures below.
Free plans have hard walls. ClickUp Free has 60 MB of storage for the whole workspace; Airtable Free stops at 5 editors and 1,000 records a base; Asana Personal stops at 2 users; Notion Free gives a workspace with 2 or more members only a limited number of blocks; Basecamp Free allows one project at a time.
For one person: ClickUp Free Forever, Asana Personal, Notion Free and Airtable Free all pass at £0. The cheapest paid plans are ClickUp Core at $12 (about £8.97) and Trello Premium at $12.50 (about £9.34). On monday.com one person pays £39 a month, because plans start at 3 seats and only Standard (£13 a seat) has a calendar.
For 5 users, ClickUp Free and Airtable Free (both £0) still pass. The cheapest paid plans are Basecamp Freelancer at $29 flat (about £21.67), then ClickUp Core $60 (about £44.83), Trello Premium $62.50 (about £46.69), Notion Plus £50, Asana Starter £57.95, monday.com Standard £65 and Airtable Team $120 (about £89.65).
For 15 users, Basecamp's flat price changes the order. Pro Plus is $99 a month for up to 15 users (about £73.96), less than any per-seat paid plan: ClickUp Core $180 (about £134.48), Trello Premium $187.50 (about £140.08), Notion Plus £150, Asana Starter £173.85, monday.com Standard £195 and Airtable Team $360 (about £268.96). ClickUp Free still passes at £0.
Calendar and timeline views are the usual paywall. Trello has them only on Premium; its Free and Standard plans get only Planner, a personal calendar. monday.com Basic has no calendar view, and Wrike Free has no calendar or Gantt.
Two tools publish no price for a team. Wrike has no month-to-month price at all: Team is billed annually only, at $10 a user. CoSchedule, now sold as social media management, prices 1 user (Starter, $39); its Professional plan stops at 3 users, and above that Suite is contact sales.
When the cheapest is not the answer
- Who counts as a user differs. Airtable's Team plan bills commenters as well as editors, so a manager who only leaves comments costs a seat; Basecamp counts every client and contractor; Trello bills every Workspace member, and upgrading ClickUp bills every member of the workspace.
- Automations are capped. monday.com Standard allows 250 actions a month (Pro 25,000), ClickUp Core 1K a month, Airtable Free 100 runs (Team 25,000).
- Storage runs out on free plans. ClickUp Free has 60 MB for the whole workspace, Notion Free takes uploads up to 5 MB, Airtable Free 1 GB of attachments per base and Basecamp Free 1 GB.
- Most pages open on yearly prices. Asana shows £9.49 against £11.59 monthly for Starter, ClickUp $9 against $12, Notion £8.50 against £10, monday.com £11 against £13, CoSchedule $29 against $39. Every figure here is the monthly price.
- Prices are before VAT. Dollar prices may attract UK VAT at checkout and move with the exchange rate.
Who made this page
An AI agent read each tool's pricing page and help centre in a real browser, switched it to monthly billing, set the team size with the page's own controls where it had them (monday.com, Basecamp), and copied the sentence behind every figure; code checked each sentence was really on the page before it could be used.

How the numbers are worked out
monthly cost = the cheapest monthly-billed plan that passes the rule below, at the smallest seat count the vendor sells that covers the team; a free plan counts if it passes
The rule. A plan counts for a team size only if its own pages show all three, for that many people who can edit (guests, viewers and comment-only users don't count):
- tasks, cards or records with an assignee and a due date;
- a shared calendar or timeline/Gantt view built into the plan, not a personal planner, a third-party Power-Up, a trial or a paid add-on;
- room for more than one campaign at once: more than one project or board, and no workspace-wide allowance that runs out in normal use.
That is why some free plans don't count: Trello Free and Standard (Planner is a personal calendar), monday.com Free and Basic (no calendar view), Wrike Free (no calendar or Gantt), Basecamp Free (one project at a time) and Notion Free once a workspace has two or more members (its block limit). Storage, automations, approvals and guests don't decide whether a plan counts; they are in the notes.

Questions people ask
What is the cheapest project management software for a marketing team?
Counting only plans with assignees, due dates and a shared calendar or timeline: for a team of 5, ClickUp Free and Airtable Free cost nothing, and the cheapest paid plan is Basecamp Freelancer at $29 a month flat (about £21.67). For 15 users, Basecamp Pro Plus is $99 a month flat (about £73.96), less than any per-seat paid plan; ClickUp Free still passes at £0.
Which project management tools have approvals and proofing?
On three of the nine, approvals and proofing sit on higher tiers: Asana Advanced only (£25.69 a user, billed monthly), Wrike Business only (billed annually only) and CoSchedule Suite only, which is contact sales.
How much does monday.com cost for one person?
£39 a month on monthly billing. monday.com's plans start at 3 seats, and only Standard (£13 a seat) has a calendar view, so one person pays for three seats. Its free plan has no calendar view, so it doesn't count here.
Does Wrike have a monthly plan?
Not on its pricing page: Wrike's prices are billed on an annual per-user basis, and Business and above are annual only. For reference, Team is $10 a user a month, billed annually.
